Hi there! I'm Marcella, an editor and writer based in San Diego, CA.
I copyedit and proofread nonfiction manuscripts related to business, healthcare, and academic topics. I also do authenticity (a.k.a. sensitivity) reading for Mexican American characters and topics related to the Latinx community.
Most recently, I’ve ventured into writing. I've been working on a children's book and a blog (a mix of editorial topics and my personal journey). Stay tuned for updates by subscribing below.
All my work is to help cultivate authentic expression in the world, and I couldn’t be more excited to dive in and see where it leads.
I'm a Mexican American woman, born and raised in Southern California. Up until a few years ago, I had a fairly linear career and educational trajectory in the healthcare and business space. I climbed the career ladder quickly and earned multiple higher education degrees (MPH, MBA). At the top though, I realized that spark was not quite there for me anymore and that just maybe...I was not doing what I was meant to be doing in life.
In late 2019, I took a bet on myself and left my leadership position and took some time off to re-set. After some inner work, I decided to make a career pivot toward freelance editing (which eventually led me to want to write). This road led back to my natural love of stories and the written word.
I am currently a co-coordinator of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA) San Diego chapter and the EFA's Welcome Program. I enjoy building community through volunteering and connecting with people.
I believe it is important to be yourself and to chart your own path. I want to use my voice and skills to cultivate authentic expression in the world. This includes providing a diverse perspective in stories and the editorial space.
Also me: decaf coffee drinker, yogi, women's soccer supporter, runner/walker, ping pong athlete in training.
